Reece James and Declan Rice Miss Training Before Key Match

England have been handed an injury concern ahead of their final World Cup group-stage fixture after both Reece James and Declan Rice missed training on Thursday.

The Three Lions returned to their Kansas City training base following a frustrating goalless draw against Ghana, but the absence of two key starters will be a concern for boss Thomas Tuchel with the clash against Panama fast approaching.

With just two days until Saturday’s showdown at MetLife Stadium, Tuchel could be forced into changes at the back.

If James is unavailable, England may turn to Jarell Quansah or Djed Spence to fill the right-back role, while Nico O’Reilly is another option on the left.

There is slightly less concern surrounding Rice, despite the midfielder showing signs of discomfort after the draw with Ghana. The Arsenal star was seen with strapping on his left calf following the match.

Having already clocked up 64 appearances in a demanding campaign, Rice appears to be dealing with the physical toll of a relentless season and is believed to have picked up a dead leg.

James’ situation appears more uncertain.

The Chelsea defender is understood to have felt discomfort in his hamstring during Tuesday’s stalemate, leaving England’s medical staff assessing his readiness for the Panama fixture.

Even if James is passed fit, Tuchel may still opt for caution. With the knockout stages looming, managing player workloads will be critical, and the England boss may decide rest is the smarter option after the full-back featured twice in the space of seven days.

England now face a tense wait as they assess the fitness of two influential players ahead of a crucial final group encounter.
